I began my teaching career in Further Education, teaching English, Theatre Studies and ICT at A-level. I moved to secondary teaching in 2002 and quickly became part of a pastoral team as a teaching Head of Year, which I did for over 13 years. At this time many schools were changing to non-teaching pastoral teams and I moved to being a Head of Department. I had moved completely into ICT and Computer Science by this time and thoroughly enjoyed leading a team in such an innovative and fast-moving subject area.

I developed a passion for SEND through my teaching, as I saw more and more need for intervention and differentiation to support individuals in their learning and being able to personalise learning to enable everyone to flourish and reach their potential was what I wanted to achieve. When the opportunity arose to become the Curriculum Lead for the new Dovecote Provision, I jumped at the chance. It has given me the challenge, drive and potential to really make a difference and I find it extremely rewarding and fulfilling. Working with such a dedicated and close team is also lovely, knowing we are all striving to give the pupils the best educational experience possible.
