The Dovecote Day

Our day is based on mainstream school times so that learners can take part in blended learning, with interventions delivered in lesson slots. Our timetable is organised over two weeks.

A typical day* might look like this:

Time
Event
Notes
Before School
On arrival
You may be getting transport to the provision.  If this is the case pupils meet inside the carpark within the designated drop off section and are escorted to the Dovecote area by TAs. Wellbeing is checked and regulation session as can take place  or our ‘chilli challenges’ arec ompleted to get us ready for the day.
8.25am
Registration
Dovecote pupils take part in their mainstream form group session. During this time, notices are given out & there is a daily activity, such as an assembly, collective worship, planner checks &attendance rewards etc.  A small handful of students will stay within the Dovecote base in our nurture form.
9.55am
Lesson 1 – e.g. English or Maths etc.
Dovecote pupils leave registration a few minutes early to go to  their lesson, to avoid crowds on the corridors. A TA will escort them to the  subject lesson. They will have support during the lesson and leave a few  minutes early to travel to the next session.
10.55am
Lesson 2 – e.g. Science or Drama etc.
There may be another mainstream lesson at this point or an intervention, like Pre & Post Learning or Speech & Language Therapy, which are delivered in the Dovecote provision itself.
11.15am
Break
We all make our way to our own diner, where a snack and drink can be had. We can all sit and chat together, away from the crowds of the main school in the big diner.
11.55am
Lesson 3 – e.g. Art, Tech or PE etc.
There may be another mainstream lesson at this point or an intervention, like LifeSkills, delivered in the Dovecote provision.Again, all movement around school will happen a few minutes before the lesson time to avoid noisy crowds.
12.15pm
Lesson 4 – e.g. History, ICT etc.
Dovecote students will have period 4, but will leave 5 minutes early to get to lunch, avoiding the crowds.
1.15pm
Lunch
Lunch is also taken in our own dining area, where we can choose a school dinner from those on offer or eat our packed lunch. It is a supervised, separate area, with no noisy crowds, where we can relax & talk. Some of our students prefer the main canteen for lunch so this is also a personalised option that can be facilitated. After we have eaten, we return to the Dovecote provision where there is often a club running, like Lego club, Film club or games club, or we can go outside for some fresh air.
1.50pm
Lesson 5
This is the last lesson of the day, which again could be in mainstream or could be an intervention in Dovecote.
2.45pm
End of school day
We leave lesson 5 a little early and say our end of day prayer in Dovecote. We gather our belongings & then the TAs will escort us back to our transport home.
When necessary
Sensory Break
The Dovecote pupils can have a sensory break at any time when need it; they may be overwhelmed or dysregulate due to over or under stimulation. For this, they can return to the Dovecote unit, do some drawing or colouring, read or use the sensory room or magic carpet. Any essential class work missed can be done in a PPL session.
*All timetables are personalised and can be adapted at any point in response to each learners needs
