Miss Hunter

I was brought up in Tenerife, where I lived for 11 Years finishing secondary education over there, so, I speak Spanish. I did a placement at another secondary school supporting the Spanish Department for a year before I started my journey at Bishop Young Academy. I have been here for six years, working within the SEND Department. I have held various roles within the Ark Department and have become the lead practitioner for Autism for the school. I am also the DSL for Dovecote and part of the wider safeguarding team, dealing with all Dovecote Safeguarding queries and some Bishop Young queries. After completing, many courses I took on the role of Resource Provision Manager prior to Dovecote opening in September 2022. From liaising with Professionals, Families, Staff, Primaries, Agencies, delivering Interventions, 1-1 sessions, the running of Dovecote, timetables, my day can be very busy but is definitely very rewarding.

In this role we encourage students to try new things, inspire and engage pupils, have them experience different activities that they have never tried before and ultimately help them to succeed academically. The best thing about working in Dovecote for me is that every day you are continuously learning new skills for when you are supporting the students. No day is the same and you get to see students portray perseverance, resilience, and some independence in tasks they have never completed before which is amazing. The Dovecote Team is one big family. Another thing that I like is the strong relationships between the Dovecote Team and the students and their families.
